In January 2025, Saif Ali Khan was involved in a harrowing incident at his Bandra residence where he was stabbed multiple times by an intruder. In a recent interview, the actor has opened up about the experience, sharing the chilling details of the attack and the reactions of his family, particularly his son Taimur.
According to reports, the incident occurred in the early hours of the morning when an intruder broke into their home, demanding money. Saif, upon hearing the commotion, rushed to his younger son Jeh's room where he encountered the masked assailant wielding two knives. Acting instinctively, Saif grabbed the intruder, leading to a physical altercation during which he was stabbed.
Saif initially didn't realize the severity of his injuries, running on adrenaline. It was only later that he felt pain and discovered his kurta was soaked in blood. In the immediate aftermath, chaos ensued as Kareena Kapoor Khan frantically tried to arrange transport to the hospital. Amidst the commotion, his son Taimur, eight years old, witnessed the scene and asked his father a direct and heart-wrenching question: "Are you going to die?". Saif, despite his own pain and shock, reassured his son, "No, I don't think so".
Interestingly, it was Taimur who accompanied Saif to Lilavati Hospital, not his wife Kareena. Saif explained that Taimur remained composed throughout the ordeal and insisted on going with him. Kareena, meanwhile, took Jeh to her sister Karisma Kapoor's residence. Saif has said of Taimur’s support, "He was absolutely composed. He was fine. He said, 'I'm coming with you.' And I thought, if something happens, I was getting a lot of comfort just from looking at him at that time. And I didn't want to go alone. My wife sent him knowing what he would do for me. Maybe it wasn't at the moment, it was the right thing to do. I felt good about it. And I also thought, if God forbid, something happens, I'd like for him to be there. And he wanted to be there also". They traveled to the hospital in a rickshaw.
At the hospital, doctors revealed the extent of Saif's injuries: he had been stabbed six times, and a three-inch knife blade had lodged dangerously close to his spinal cord. Saif underwent a six-hour surgery to remove the blade, which had even nicked the protective covering of his spinal cord, causing spinal fluid leakage and temporary numbness in his leg. Doctors informed him that "just one more millimeter and we'd be talking paralysis". Saif now has 30 scars from the attack.
Saif acknowledged the gravity of the situation, recognizing how close he came to a life-altering injury. He expressed disbelief that the attacker missed his carotid artery and jugular vein, calling it a "miracle" that he survived. Following the incident, Saif and Kareena have understandably been concerned about the security of their children.
The Mumbai police suspect that the attacker may have also attempted to enter Shah Rukh Khan's residence two days prior to attacking Saif. The auto driver who drove Saif to the hospital recounted the incident, stating that Kareena Kapoor was visibly disturbed.
