Three individuals have been arrested in Paschim Bardhaman district, West Bengal, in connection with the alleged gang rape of a medical college student. The arrests were made on Sunday, October 12, 2025.

The victim, a second-year MBBS student from Odisha, was allegedly attacked on Friday night in Durgapur. According to reports, the 23-year-old student from Jaleswar, Odisha, who attends IQ City Medical College in Durgapur's Shivapur area, went out for dinner with a male friend when the incident occurred near the college gate. Some men approached them, took the woman to a secluded area, and raped her before fleeing.

Following the incident, the student is currently receiving medical treatment at the hospital and has provided her statement to the police. Police have filed a case against the three accused under sections for gangrape and criminal liability when multiple people act with a common intention.

Authorities have not yet disclosed the identities of those arrested. A police officer stated that the three individuals are being questioned and that further details would be released later due to the sensitive nature of the case. According to initial reports, two additional suspects remain at large.

The alleged gang rape has sparked political reactions, with Odisha Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi expressing concern and urging West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee to take swift action against the perpetrators.
