Canucks vs Stars: October 16, 2025 - Predicting the Starting Lineups for This Exciting Matchup

The Vancouver Canucks and Dallas Stars face off tonight at the American Airlines Center at 8 p.m. ET. The game will be broadcast on Victory+ and SN1. Here's a look at the projected lineups for both teams.

Canucks (1-2-0)

The Canucks are coming off a 5-2 loss to the St. Louis Blues and are looking to rebound on the road. Vancouver has struggled to find consistency in their execution, but goalie Thatcher Demko said, "I've seen the skeleton of some really good things".

Here's the projected lineup:

  • Forwards:
    • Drew O'Connor — Elias Pettersson — Conor Garland
    • Jake DeBrusk — Filip Chytil — Brock Boeser
    • Evander Kane — Aatu Raty — Kiefer Sherwood
    • Arshdeep Bains — Max Sasson — Linus Karlsson
  • Defense:
    • Quinn Hughes — Filip Hronek
    • Elias Pettersson — Tyler Myers
    • Marcus Pettersson — Victor Mancini
  • Goalies:
    • Thatcher Demko
    • Kevin Lankinen

Linus Karlsson will make his season debut, taking Jonathan Lekkerimaki's spot. Max Sasson has been called up. Derek Forbort (undisclosed), Nils Hoglander (lower body), Teddy Blueger (undisclosed), and P.O Joseph (lower body) are all injured. Victor Mancini will draw into the lineup for the injured Forbort. Thatcher Demko is expected to start in goal, with Kevin Lankinen likely to start Friday against Chicago Blackhawks. Demko is 1-1 with a 1.54 GAA and a .944 SV% this season.

Coach Adam Foote has shaken up the lines. Drew O'Connor will join Pettersson and Garland on the top line. Foote liked the chemistry between Aatu Räty and Kiefer Sherwood, so that duo will remain intact, but with Evander Kane on their left wing. The fourth line will consist of Bains, Sasson, and Karlsson.

Stars (3-0-0)

The Stars are coming off a 5-2 win against the Minnesota Wild and are looking to continue their perfect start to the season.

Here's the projected lineup:

  • Forwards:
    • Sam Steel — Roope Hintz — Mikko Rantanen
    • Jason Robertson — Wyatt Johnston — Mavrik Bourque
    • Justin Hryckowian — Radek Faksa — Tyler Seguin
    • Adam Erne — Colin Blackwell — Nathan Bastian
  • Defense:
    • Esa Lindell — Miro Heiskanen
    • Thomas Harley — Nils Lundkvist
    • Lian Bichsel — Alexander Petrovic
  • Goalies:
    • Casey DeSmith
    • Jake Oettinger

Matt Duchene is out after colliding with Minnesota Wild defenseman Jake Middleton on Tuesday. Coach Glen Gulutzan said Duchene was close to playing but will be held out as a precaution. Adam Erne will step into the lineup. Oskar Back (undisclosed) and Jamie Benn (collapsed lung) are also injured. Casey DeSmith will make his first start of the season. Ilya Lyubushkin will be scratched.
