PM Modi in Patna as Nitish Kumar Prepares for Historic 10th Term as Bihar Chief Minister

Patna, November 20, 2025 – Prime Minister Narendra Modi arrived in Patna today to attend the swearing-in ceremony of Nitish Kumar, who is set to take oath as the Chief Minister of Bihar for a record tenth time. The ceremony is being held at the historic Gandhi Maidan in Patna.

Preparations for the grand event have been underway, with elaborate arrangements made at Gandhi Maidan to accommodate the numerous VIP attendees and the general public. The venue holds historical significance, having hosted Kumar's swearing-in ceremonies in the past and being the site of Jayaprakash Narayan's call for a “total revolution” in 1974.

Senior NDA leaders, including Union Home Minister Amit Shah and BJP National President JP Nadda, are attending the ceremony. Chief Ministers from several NDA-ruled states are also expected to be present.

Nitish Kumar was unanimously elected as the leader of the National Democratic Alliance (NDA) Legislature Party on Wednesday, paving the way for the formation of the new government under his leadership. Kumar, who has shaped Bihar's political landscape for over two decades, served as Chief Minister since November 2005, with a brief interruption in 2014-15.

The NDA secured a landslide victory in the 2025 Bihar Assembly elections, winning 202 of the 243 seats. This is only the second time the NDA has crossed the 200-seat mark, after securing 206 seats in 2010. The BJP won 89 seats, while the JD(U) secured 85. Other NDA constituents include LJP (Ram Vilas), HAM(S), and Rashtriya Lok Morcha.

Samrat Choudhary and Vijay Kumar Sinha are expected to take oath as Deputy Chief Ministers.

Tight security measures are in place at Gandhi Maidan, with multiple pandals erected for VIP attendees. The event is seen as a show of strength by the National Democratic Alliance (NDA).

The Prime Minister's visit to Patna underscores the significance of Bihar in the national political landscape and the importance of the NDA alliance in the state.
