Jaish operative apprehended near J&K border in Akhnoor, possessing M-5 rifle: A terrorism threat thwarted.

Akhnoor, J&K: Alert Border Security Force (BSF) troops have apprehended a Jaish-e-Mohammad (JeM) terrorist near the Indo-Pak border in the Akhnoor sector of Jammu and Kashmir. The operative, identified as Abdul Khalik, was taken into custody after suspicious movement was detected near the International Border (IB) in the Pargwal area.

According to police officials, Abdul Khalik, a resident of Rajouri, was allegedly attempting to infiltrate the border. A search of the individual led to the recovery of a modified AK-type rifle, ten rounds, a magazine, and a drum magazine.

Following his apprehension, Abdul Khalik was handed over to the Khour police station where a formal investigation has been initiated. A senior police officer stated that the suspect is being sent to the Joint Interrogation Centre for questioning. The aim is to ascertain the extent of his involvement in terrorist activities, identify the organization he is affiliated with, and uncover the motives behind his attempted infiltration.

While authorities have not yet confirmed the affiliation, initial reports suggest that Abdul Khalik may be linked to the Jaish-e-Mohammad (JeM) terrorist outfit. JeM is a Pakistan-based militant group that has been involved in numerous attacks in India, particularly in the Jammu and Kashmir region.

The arrest occurred amidst heightened security measures along the International Border (IB). For the past fortnight, the BSF has been conducting extensive combing operations in the areas adjacent to the IB from Jammu to Kathua sectors as part of its winter strategy. These operations are designed to prevent infiltration attempts and maintain vigil against any potential threats.

Security forces in Jammu and Kashmir have been on high alert, especially with recent incidents involving the apprehension of terrorist associates and the recovery of arms and ammunition. In July 2025, two overground workers linked to JeM were arrested in Pulwama, along with arms and ammunition. These arrests highlight the continued efforts by militant groups to destabilize the region.

The arrest of Abdul Khalik with a sophisticated weapon near the IB underscores the persistent threat of cross-border terrorism. Security agencies are actively working to thwart these attempts and maintain peace and stability in the region. The ongoing investigation is expected to reveal further details about the operative's network and the intended use of the recovered weapon.
