India and Israel Unite Against Terrorism: A Shared "Zero Tolerance" Approach, Declares S Jaishankar.

In a joint statement delivered in Jerusalem on Tuesday, December 16, 2025, Indian External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar and Israeli Foreign Minister Gideon Sa'ar affirmed their countries' shared "zero tolerance" policy towards terrorism. The declaration came as Jaishankar conveyed condolences for the recent terror attack at Bondi Beach in Sydney, Australia, which occurred during Hanukkah celebrations.

"Let me first of all convey our very very sincere deep condolences at the loss of life due to the terror attack at Hanukkah celebrations in Bondi Beach," Jaishankar stated. "I want to say that we condemn it in the strongest possible terms, where India and Israel are concerned, we are both countries who have a policy of zero-tolerance towards terrorism". He also expressed appreciation for Israel's consistent support in India's fight against terrorism in all its forms. Sa'ar echoed this sentiment, calling terrorism a "mutual threat" to both nations and pledging Israel's unwavering support to India.

The Bondi Beach attack, which resulted in the deaths of 15 people and injuries to 40 others, involved two gunmen who opened fire on a gathering during a Hanukkah by the Sea event. The attackers were identified as Sajid Akram, a 50-year-old Indian national, and his 24-year-old Australian son, Naveed Akram. Indian police confirmed that Sajid Akram, who had moved to Australia in 1998, held an Indian passport but had minimal contact with family in India.

During the meeting, Jaishankar and Sa'ar discussed the strategic partnership between India and Israel, which has significantly grown in the past decade. Jaishankar noted the G2G, B2B, and people-to-people dimensions of the relationship, emphasizing the need to adapt it to the evolving global landscape. Sa'ar added that the two countries would adopt a "very comprehensive and ambitious working plan" for bilateral relations in 2026, highlighting India's position as the world's largest democracy and fastest-growing economy.

Jaishankar also reiterated India's support for the Gaza peace plan, expressing hope for a lasting and durable solution to the regional conflict. He conveyed the good wishes of Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi to Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, with preparations underway for a proposed visit by Netanyahu to India.

Jaishankar's visit to Israel underscores the deepening ties between the two nations and their shared commitment to combating terrorism.
