According to Bina Ramani, Rekha's friend, Rekha's deep love for Amitabh was met with the realization that he would never publicly acknowledge their relationship, especially after he joined politics. Ramani revealed in an interview with ANI that Rekha wanted validation and that "she believed she belonged to him in spirit and he belonged to her in spirit". Rekha's friend described their marriage as a "fantasy" due to their different lives and cities. Rekha herself described it as an arranged marriage, saying, "It wasn't love, that's for sure". She admitted that she had barely known Aggarwal before marrying him.
