Rekha's Untold Story: Why She Chose Marriage Over Her Love for Amitabh Bachchan—Friend Reveals All

Rekha's life, marked by professional triumphs and personal tribulations, continues to fascinate the public. A recent revelation by her close friend, Bina Ramani, has shed light on the reasons behind Rekha's marriage to businessman Mukesh Aggarwal, amidst her widely speculated love for Amitabh Bachchan.

While Rekha and Amitabh Bachchan's on-screen chemistry was undeniable in films like 'Silsila', 'Muqaddar Ka Sikandar', and 'Mr. Natwarlal', their alleged off-screen romance remained largely unacknowledged by Bachchan. Rekha, however, has hinted at her feelings for him over the years. In a candid interview with Simi Garewal, when asked if she had ever been in love with Bachchan, Rekha responded, "Absolutely! That's a dumb question!". She further added, "I'm yet to come across a man, woman, or child who can't help but fall completely in love with him. Why should I be singled out?".

According to Bina Ramani, Rekha's friend, Rekha's deep love for Amitabh was met with the realization that he would never publicly acknowledge their relationship, especially after he joined politics. Ramani revealed in an interview with ANI that Rekha wanted validation and that "she believed she belonged to him in spirit and he belonged to her in spirit". However, Bachchan's marriage to Jaya Bachchan and his political ambitions made it impossible for him to openly accept their bond.

This emotional impasse reportedly led Rekha to seek stability and a sense of belonging in marriage. Bina Ramani introduced her to Mukesh Aggarwal, a Delhi-based industrialist, who was captivated by Rekha. According to Ramani, Aggarwal was an ardent fan of Rekha and proposed to her after a few meetings. Rekha, perhaps seeking solace from her unrequited love, accepted.

The wedding took place on March 4, 1990. However, the marriage was short-lived and fraught with difficulties. Aggarwal, who was reportedly battling depression and struggling with business pressures, died by suicide just seven months after the wedding. This left Rekha widowed and facing intense public scrutiny.

Rekha's friend described their marriage as a "fantasy" due to their different lives and cities. Rekha herself described it as an arranged marriage, saying, "It wasn't love, that's for sure". She admitted that she had barely known Aggarwal before marrying him.

The tragic end to her marriage led to Rekha being ostracized by some in the film industry, with some even blaming her for Aggarwal's death. However, Rekha has always maintained her silence on the matter, choosing to focus on her career.

Despite the heartbreaks and challenges, Rekha remains an iconic figure in Indian cinema. Her story serves as a reminder that even those who appear to have it all may be grappling with hidden emotional wounds.
