Jennifer Lawrence, the 35-year-old Oscar-winning actress, recently revealed her reasoning for not watching her own films during a conversation with Leonardo DiCaprio for Variety. The exchange occurred during a discussion about their careers and experiences on set.
When asked by DiCaprio if she ever revisits her movies, Lawrence responded that she generally avoids watching them. She jokingly explained that she's "never made something like Titanic - if I did, I would watch it". She did, however, recount one instance where she watched American Hustle while intoxicated, humorously wondering if she was good at acting, but not remembering the conclusion. DiCaprio confessed that he has never watched Titanic. Lawrence responded, "Oh, you should. I bet you could watch it now. It's so good". DiCaprio stated that he doesn't really watch his films.
Lawrence has also spoken about her approach to movie reviews, stating that she doesn't read them. In an interview with The Hollywood Reporter, she admitted that she wouldn't even know where to find them, claiming she doesn't know how to use Twitter. While her team alerts her to important information, she prefers to avoid the "postmortem" analysis of reviews.
Lawrence credited director David O. Russell, with whom she worked on Silver Linings Playbook, American Hustle, and Joy, for teaching her how to act. She acknowledged that Russell can be tough on actors but said she responded well to his direct coaching style. She said Russell would say things like "'Do it loud,' 'Do it quieter,' 'That was b*,' 'That was bad,' 'Do it better,'" but Lawrence, who grew up playing sports, likened it to being coached. She also said she doesn't like being treated delicately, or like she's an emotional landmine.
In other news, Lawrence is set to appear in Martin Scorsese's upcoming thriller, What Happens at Night, alongside DiCaprio, with production beginning in early 2026.
Lawrence has also made light of some of her past experiences on film sets. In the same conversation with DiCaprio, she recounted two instances where she accidentally took the wrong pills. On Red Sparrow, she took an Adderall instead of a sleeping pill and couldn't sleep all night. On Hunger Games: Catching Fire, she took an Ambien in the morning before a dance scene with Philip Seymour Hoffman, causing her to hallucinate, which she said annoyed Elizabeth Banks.
