Colton White, a 28-year-old defenseman for the New Jersey Devils, is making a name for himself with his recent performances in the NHL. After signing a two-year, two-way contract with the Devils in July 2024, White spent the first year of his contract with the Utica Comets in the American Hockey League (AHL), where he was named an alternate captain.

White's journey to the NHL has been marked by dedication and perseverance. Drafted by the Devils in the fourth round (97th overall) of the 2015 NHL Entry Draft, he played junior hockey with the Sault Ste. Marie Greyhounds of the Ontario Hockey League (OHL). White signed an entry-level contract with the Devils in September 2016. In his first pro season in 2017–18, he split time between the Adirondack Thunder of the ECHL and the Binghamton Devils of the AHL. He received his first NHL recall on March 13, 2019, and debuted against the Edmonton Oilers.

Since being called up from Utica on November 5, 2025, White has been a valuable asset to the Devils, averaging 11:58 of ice time as a depth defenseman. He keeps himself focused during TV timeouts by taking quick skates near the team's bench. Although it is not clear how long White will stay with the Devils, he has made a significant impact, playing hard minutes and earning the respect of his teammates and coaches.

White's play has been particularly impressive considering the challenges of filling a depth role. He has demonstrated his adaptability by playing with multiple defensive partners, including Dennis Cholowski, Brenden Dillon, and Simon Nemec, and has often played on his off-side. Despite a small sample size, White's defensive zone metrics rank high among the Devils' defensemen.

Prior to his return to the Devils, White played within the Anaheim Ducks organization. After expressing interest in returning to the Devils, he signed a two-year, two-way contract in July 2024. Before his call-up, White was assigned to Utica for the 2024-25 season but was quickly named an alternate captain.

In a recent game, White contributed two assists in a 4-1 win over the Anaheim Ducks. In 96 NHL regular-season games over six seasons, White has 13 assists. While he may not offer significant scoring output for fantasy hockey, he has contributed five shots on net, 12 hits, and nine blocked shots in 11 games this season, with a plus-2 rating.
