Mitchell, Indiana native Chase Briscoe secured the pole position for Sunday's Brickyard 400 at Indianapolis Motor Speedway. This marks his fifth pole of the 2025 NASCAR Cup Series season. Briscoe's lap time was 49.136 seconds, translating to an average speed of 183.165 mph.
Bubba Wallace will start on the front row alongside Briscoe, qualifying second with a time of 49.149 seconds. Erik Jones qualified third. Tyler Reddick, the 2024 Brickyard 400 pole winner, will start fourth, and Ty Gibbs will round out the top five.
Toyota drivers swept the top five positions in qualifying. William Byron, in a Chevrolet, broke up the Toyota streak by qualifying sixth. Chris Buescher qualified seventh, and Carson Hocevar will start eighth.
Several drivers experienced issues in Turn 2 during qualifying. Denny Hamlin crashed hard into the inside wall. Hamlin will start at the rear of the field. John Hunter Nemechek, Brad Keselowski, Michael McDowell, and Kyle Busch also made contact with the Turn 2 wall.
Briscoe reflected on his achievement, recalling childhood memories of attending the Brickyard 400 as a fan. He now has claimed pole position at three out of four of NASCAR's "Crown Jewel" races, having won poles earlier this year at the Daytona 500 and Coca-Cola 600.
The Brickyard 400 is race number 22 on the 26-race regular season schedule. Most drivers will be looking to either solidify their position in the playoff standings or improve their chances of making the playoffs.
