In a shocking incident in Meerut, Uttar Pradesh, a man has been arrested for allegedly stabbing his seven-month pregnant wife to death. The accused, identified as Ravi Shankar, killed his wife, Sapna, at her sister's home in Amhera village on Saturday morning.
According to reports, Ravi Shankar and Sapna had been experiencing marital issues since their wedding in January 2025. Due to increasing tensions, Sapna had been residing at her sister Pinky's house for approximately five months. On the day of the incident, Ravi visited Sapna at her sister's residence and requested to speak with her privately. He then took her to an upstairs room, locked the door, and allegedly stabbed her multiple times.
Family members and neighbors reportedly heard Sapna's cries for help but were unable to enter the locked room. The police were immediately alerted and rushed to the scene. Upon arriving, officers forced the door open and found Ravi Shankar sitting calmly next to Sapna's body, with bloodstains covering the room. He surrendered to the police without resistance.
Authorities have registered a murder case against Ravi Shankar and have taken him into custody. Sapna's body has been sent for a postmortem examination, and further investigations are currently underway.
This tragic event is not an isolated incident, as Meerut has witnessed several disturbing crime cases recently. In a separate incident, a 40-year-old man was arrested in Bareilly for murdering his wife and attempting to stage the crime as a highway robbery. The man confessed to the crime after police found inconsistencies in his story. Investigations revealed he was having an affair and plotted to kill his wife with his lover.
In another case from March 2025, two individuals were arrested for the murder of a former Merchant Navy officer. The accused were found to be long-time drug abusers and had consumed psychotropic substances before committing the crime. The pair murdered the officer and dismembered his body, concealing the remains in a drum filled with cement.
These incidents highlight a disturbing trend of violent crime in the Meerut region. Local authorities are under increasing pressure to address the root causes of such crimes and ensure the safety and security of residents.
