Reliance Industries Limited (RIL) and Meta have joined forces to bring affordable enterprise-grade artificial intelligence (AI) solutions to Indian businesses. The collaboration aims to empower companies of all sizes, from startups and small businesses to large corporations, with accessible and scalable AI tools.
The joint venture will develop AI platforms and tools based on Meta's open-source Llama models. These solutions are designed to improve efficiency across various business functions, including customer service, sales, IT operations, and finance. Reliance will leverage its extensive reach and experience with Indian enterprises, while Meta will contribute its expertise in developing and refining Llama models.
Both companies have committed approximately Rs 855 crore (around US$100 million) to the venture, with Reliance holding 70% and Meta 30%. The deal is expected to be finalized by the end of 2025, pending regulatory approvals.
The partnership aims to provide ready-to-use AI solutions that can be easily scaled. By utilizing Llama models, the cost of running AI at a large scale will be reduced compared to other options. Businesses will also have the flexibility to deploy the tools on the cloud, on-premises, or across their own infrastructure, providing better control over costs.
Mukesh Ambani, Chairman and Managing Director of RIL, stated that the partnership will help bring AI to every Indian enterprise, with the goal of "democratizing enterprise-grade AI" to help businesses innovate faster and compete globally. Meta's CEO, Mark Zuckerberg, expressed excitement about deepening the partnership with Reliance, highlighting that the collaboration will bring Meta's AI models into real-world use and expand Meta's presence in the enterprise space.
This initiative could provide Indian enterprises with access to powerful AI tools at affordable costs, potentially transforming how businesses operate and serve customers. The joint venture will offer a comprehensive suite of AI services, including an Enterprise AI Platform-as-a-Service, which is a secure, full-stack environment that allows organizations to customize, deploy, and govern generative AI models for various functions. It will also provide pre-configured AI solutions addressing cross-functional and industry-specific use cases. The partnership aims to deliver high-performance model deployment at a lower total cost of ownership, with flexibility across cloud, on-premises, or proprietary infrastructure to optimize costs.
Reliance Industries is also expanding its partnership with Google Cloud to develop a state-of-the-art AI cloud region in Jamnagar. This facility will be powered by Reliance's green energy initiatives and connected by Jio's digital backbone, housing Google's AI hypercomputer and integrated AI stack. This will enable Reliance to deliver high-performance AI services to enterprises, startups, and public sector organizations.
Furthermore, Reliance is building an AI-native digital ecosystem, integrating AI at every touchpoint, from Gen AI-enabled customer journeys to AI-powered diagnostics and automation. JioAirFiber serves over one million homes per month, and the company launched Jio AI Cloud last year, offering free storage to users. The company's mission is to equip homes, businesses, and individuals with scalable AI tools, making India the world's first AI-native digital economy.
Reliance also introduced JioPC, which transforms screens into AI-ready cloud computers, and JioFrames, an AI-powered innovation that integrates voice assistants across devices and supports multiple Indian languages. In addition, Reliance announced the formation of a wholly-owned subsidiary, Reliance Intelligence, dedicated to enhancing AI in India. This entity will focus on delivering trusted and easy-to-use AI solutions for consumers, small businesses, and enterprises, as well as serving as a hub for AI research, engineering, and product development.
