A Kurukshetra court has sentenced Balwinder Singh to 20 years of rigorous imprisonment for the abduction and rape of a minor girl. The court emphasized the strict provisions under the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act, highlighting the severity of crimes involving children.

The case dates back to August 30, 2022, when a person filed a complaint with the Sadar police station in the Kurukshetra district, reporting that his 15-year-old daughter had gone missing. The complainant suspected that Virender, also known as Bhiru, who worked with the family at a brick kiln in a nearby village, had enticed and abducted his daughter.

Following the complaint, the police registered a case and began investigations, which were assigned to PSI Santosh Kumari. During the investigation, the missing minor was recovered, and a medical examination was conducted. The accused, Virender, was arrested and taken into custody.

The Fast Track Special Court conducted regular hearings in the case. Additional District and Sessions Judge found Virender guilty based on the evidence and witness testimonies presented. The court convicted him under Section 4(2) of the POCSO Act, sentencing him to 20 years of rigorous imprisonment and imposing a fine of ₹30,000. He also received imprisonment and fines for other offenses. If the fine is not paid, he will have to undergo one year of additional rigorous imprisonment.

In a separate case, in July 2022, the Kurukshetra police arrested a photographer for allegedly raping and killing a 16-year-old girl. The accused, Jarnail Singh, a resident of Salpani village in Kurukshetra, allegedly strangled the girl to death after raping her and dumped her body in a canal near Dabkheri village. The police suspected Jarnail's involvement after discovering that he had met the victim at her cousin's wedding on June 20 and they had exchanged contact numbers. During questioning, Jarnail confessed that he was already married and had taken the girl on a bike near the canal on the night of July 1. He raped her and when she refused to go back, he killed her with a cloth.

In another case from September 2023, a Kurukshetra man was sentenced to life imprisonment for attempting to rape a 14-year-old girl in December 2020. The victim's father reported that the accused had climbed onto the terrace of their house and attempted to rape his daughter. The girl raised an alarm, and family members rushed to the terrace, causing the accused to flee. The court also imposed a fine of ₹30,000 on the convict, Mukesh Kumar.

These cases underscore the ongoing efforts of the Kurukshetra courts to address and punish crimes against minors, with a particular emphasis on offenses under the POCSO Act.
