Prime Minister Narendra Modi is set to visit Manipur on September 13, 2025, marking his first visit to the state since ethnic violence began in May 2023. The visit aims to address the ongoing unrest and restore peace and stability in the region.

The Prime Minister's itinerary includes meetings with internally displaced persons (IDPs) and the inauguration of multiple development projects. He is scheduled to arrive in Churachandpur around 12:15 PM from Aizawl, where he will interact with displaced families living in relief camps. Following his engagements in Churachandpur, PM Modi will proceed to Kangla in Imphal, an ancient royal site central to Manipuri heritage and the cultural heart of the Meitei community.

During his visit, the Prime Minister will lay the foundation stone for projects worth ₹7,300 crore and inaugurate completed works valued at ₹1,200 crore. These projects encompass various sectors, including infrastructure, connectivity, education, healthcare, and IT.

Some of the key projects for which foundation stones will be laid include the Manipur Urban Roads, Drainage and Asset Management Improvement Project (₹3,647 crore), the Manipur Infotech Development (MIND) Project (₹550 crore), and the construction of working women hostels at nine locations (₹142 crore). Additionally, investments will be made in specialized healthcare in remote and hill districts (₹105 crore) and the strengthening of 120 high schools and higher secondary schools across all 16 districts (₹134 crore).

The Prime Minister will also inaugurate completed projects worth ₹1,203 crore, including the newly built Manipur Bhawans in Dwarka, New Delhi, and Salt Lake, Kolkata, the second phase of the Western River Front development of the Imphal River, and the Mall Road expansion in Imphal. Key infrastructure in the state capital, such as the new Police Headquarters, IT-SEZ Building-I, and the Civil Secretariat at Mantripukhri, will also be formally inaugurated.

The visit comes against the backdrop of 27 months of turmoil in Manipur, marked by recurring violence between the Meitei and Kuki-Zo communities. Nearly 57,000 people continue to live in over 280 relief camps spread across the Meitei-majority valley and the Kuki-Zo-dominated hills. The Prime Minister's visit is expected to pave the way for peace, normalcy, and growth in the state.
