Bollywood actress Soha Ali Khan recently shared a disturbing experience she had while traveling in Italy. In a recent interview, she recounted being flashed in broad daylight, an incident that left her shaken and perplexed.

Soha described the incident as unsettling, expressing her inability to understand the motive behind such an act. "In Italy, yes. Apparently that happens often," she stated. "But in broad daylight? Yeah... What is their motive? I don't understand that. We don't want to get into their heads to understand," she shared in an interview with Hauterrfly.

The actress, known for films like "Rang De Basanti" and "Tum Mile", also reflected on the issue of the casting couch in Bollywood. Soha acknowledged that she might have been spared from such experiences due to her family's prominence in the film industry. "Somewhere, this privilege, where you belong to an industry family, maybe because of that, I was spared. Everybody felt that there's Saif, there's Sharmila ji. Maybe because of that. But I really haven't had any experiences like that. Thank God for that," she explained.

Soha comes from a lineage of influential figures, being the daughter of actress Sharmila Tagore and cricketer Mansur Ali Khan Pataudi, and sister to actor Saif Ali Khan. She recognized that her privileged background has offered her a certain level of protection throughout her life. "I understand that my life is privileged, my life has been protected," Soha admitted. "And I'm happy that I've not had such experiences. I know that for so many people who take public transport, something or the other happens every day," she added, acknowledging the realities faced by many women.

During the interview, Soha also touched upon the evolving role of women in the film industry. She recalled a time when, early in her career, she and her hairdresser were often the only women present on set. "For ages, Bharti, who's been my hairdresser for 20 years, from my first film to now, Bharti and I were the only women on set. Then somewhere, a costume designer or assistant would be there," Soha reminisced.

Soha noted that while the presence of women has increased across various departments, including cinematography, sound, and editing, the industry still has progress to make. "Even now, a lot of times, you see yourself as a minority—in the boardroom, scripting sessions, casting," she observed.

Soha's experience in Italy serves as a reminder of the challenges women can face while traveling, and her perspective on the casting couch highlights the complexities of navigating the film industry. Her acknowledgment of privilege and her observations about the changing landscape for women in Bollywood contribute to important conversations about safety, opportunity, and representation.
