The Meitei Heritage Society has strongly condemned the alleged sexual assault of a Tripura student in Guwahati, Assam. The incident reportedly occurred at a private university and involved students from Manipur.

According to reports, the Assam Police have detained two students from Manipur in connection with the alleged sexual assault. The Meitei Heritage Society has expressed its condemnation of the act, emphasizing the shame it brings upon the state of Manipur. The society is demanding that the culprits receive exemplary punishment for their actions.

A leader from Tipra Motha has offered assistance to the victim and has urged the public to refrain from speculation and revealing the victim's identity.

In a separate incident from earlier this month, Assam Police arrested five Meitei students from Manipur in connection with the alleged gang rape of a minor Tripuri girl. The arrests followed the victim's complaint and the subsequent recovery of digital evidence. Police sources indicated that the incident occurred at a rented accommodation, where the minor was allegedly lured under false pretenses before being assaulted. Investigators recovered video recordings of the crime from the suspects' mobile phones, confirming the involvement of multiple individuals. The accused have been identified as Robinson Mayengbam, Nongmai, Alex, Oskar, and one other associate. They have been booked under relevant sections of the Indian Penal Code and the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act. There are reports that the accused may be the same group of Meitei students from Assam Down Town University (ADTU) who allegedly desecrated the National Flag on Independence Day. However, police have not yet confirmed this connection.

Law enforcement officials have assured that the case is being handled with urgency and that due process will be followed. They have also appealed to the public not to share any video or sensitive content related to the case, warning that doing so would be a criminal offense. Women's rights groups in the region have condemned the incident and are calling for swift justice to restore faith in law enforcement and ensure protection for vulnerable communities.
