Jennifer Lopez has released "Never You," a new song from her upcoming film, Kiss of the Spider Woman. The film is scheduled to premiere in theaters on October 10, 2025. The song, performed by Lopez, was released by Lakeshore Records on September 18, 2025.
Kiss of the Spider Woman is a musical drama directed by Bill Condon, based on the stage musical by Terrence McNally, John Kander, and Fred Ebb, and the 1976 novel by Manuel Puig. The movie had its world premiere at the Sundance Film Festival in January 2025 and received generally positive reviews.
Lopez stars as Ingrid Luna and Aurora in the film, alongside Diego Luna as Valentín and Tonatiuh as Molina. The story follows Valentín, a political prisoner, who shares a cell with Molina, a window dresser jailed for public indecency. To escape the harsh realities of prison, Molina recounts the plot of a Hollywood musical starring Ingrid Luna. The film combines classic Hollywood glamour with the grit of prison life, showcasing the bond formed between the prisoners through Luna's charisma.
"Never You" was written by John Kander and was only performed during the musical's early developmental stages at SUNY in 1990. According to Lakeshore Records, the song is a "strikingly emotive song" that plays during a key moment in the film. The full soundtrack for Kiss of the Spider Woman is set to be released on October 3, 2025.
Lopez has expressed her lifelong dream of starring in a musical. She recalled watching West Side Story as a child and feeling mesmerized, which fueled her ambition to be in the entertainment business. She had auditioned for movie musicals like Evita, Chicago, and Nine in the past and was also attached to star in a live NBC production of Bye Bye Birdie in 2016, which never materialized.
To prepare for her role in Kiss of the Spider Woman, Lopez stated that she "rehearsed like crazy". She also revealed that director Bill Condon filmed the large musical numbers in a single take.
