Mumbai Dog's Firecracker Escape: Train Journey Ends in Kandivali After 17 Days.

Nemo, a friendly female dog residing near Churchgate's Pil Court building in Mumbai, recently experienced an unexpected adventure. On September 6, 2025, amidst the Ganpati immersions, Nemo grew frightened by the loud sounds of firecrackers. In a bid to escape the noise, she jumped onto a local train at Churchgate station.

The residents of Pil Court, accustomed to Nemo's presence, were distressed when they realized she was missing. They initiated a search, both physically around South Mumbai and online, using social networks to spread the word. Anahita Uberoi, a theatre and film personality and Pil Court resident, highlighted Nemo's popularity and the community's sadness upon her disappearance.

Unbeknownst to the searchers, Nemo had traveled a considerable distance. The local train had carried her to Kandivali (West), a suburb in the city. After 17 long days, a dog feeder from Kandivali, Jenny, contacted the Churchgate residents after seeing a dog resembling Nemo in her area. Jenny reported that the dog seemed confused and nervous. This tip proved to be a crucial turning point in the search.

With the focus shifted to Kandivali, the search intensified. A railway canteen worker and a local hawker provided valuable information, sharing sightings of Nemo over the previous few days. The canteen worker also offered Nemo food and water, which helped keep her in the area until she could be rescued. The Shapoorji Pallonji group also aided in the search, utilizing their contacts in Kandivali.

The efforts of numerous individuals and groups ultimately led to Nemo's successful recovery and reunion with her caregivers. The incident highlights the fear that loud noises, like firecrackers, can instill in animals and the importance of community support in locating lost pets.
