Haryana Police have arrested Wasim Akram, a YouTuber from Palwal, on charges of spying for Pakistan's Inter-Services Intelligence (ISI) and its High Commission. Akram, a resident of Kot village, was taken into custody on Wednesday. Police indicated that more arrests could follow in the coming days.
Wasim Akram was allegedly in contact with Pakistani agents for the past three years and met with them in Delhi, providing SIM cards. Police have recovered several incriminating WhatsApp chats from his phone, including some deleted messages which the cyber cell is attempting to retrieve.
The arrest follows the detention of Taufiq, another Pakistani spy, last week. During interrogation, Taufiq revealed Akram's name and links with Pakistani intelligence. Taufiq, a resident of Alimev village, was arrested on September 26 for allegedly sending sensitive information to Pakistan since 2022. Both accused are currently on police remand.
According to the police, Akram first came into contact with a Pakistani agent named Danish in 2021 while applying for a visa to Pakistan. While his family denies any travel to the neighboring country, interrogation revealed cross-border connections. Both Akram and Taufiq were in contact with the ISI and the Pakistan High Commission through internet calls.
SP Varun Singla has tasked the Palwal crime branch and other authorities with a thorough investigation, while the Intelligence Bureau is also coordinating. The Palwal Crime Branch and AVT Hathin have been assigned to thoroughly investigate the case.
Wasim Akram used to create videos on the history of Mewat on YouTube. Wasim's father runs a hospital in the village.
In May 2025, the Hisar police arrested Jyoti Malhotra, another YouTuber, on charges of espionage for sharing sensitive information with Pakistani intelligence operatives during her visits to Pakistan.
