Shubman Gill Grounded: Illness Sidelines Him for Guwahati Test, India Faces Availability Concerns.

Shubman Gill's participation in the second Test against South Africa in Guwahati on November 22nd is uncertain after he sustained a neck injury during the first Test in Kolkata. Gill was admitted to a hospital in Kolkata for scans, an MRI, and routine assessment, remaining under observation overnight before being discharged on November 16.

Following his release from the hospital, Gill has been advised to rest and is being closely monitored by the BCCI medical team. While initial assessments are encouraging, with doctors confirming he is stable, mobile, and experiencing reduced discomfort, his availability for the Guwahati Test remains a 50-50 call.

Reports indicate that Gill is expected to travel with the Indian team to Guwahati on November 19. However, some reports suggest he might travel on November 20 if the BCCI medical team doesn't flag any concerns. Despite traveling with the squad, his participation in the second Test is still doubtful. The final decision on whether he plays will depend on his response to rest and light mobility exercises over the next few days.

Gill's injury occurred on Day 2 of the first Test at Eden Gardens. After defending a delivery, he appeared to trigger a whiplash-like reaction while attempting a shot, clutching the back of his neck and struggling to turn his head. He was retired hurt after facing just three deliveries in India's first innings and took no further part in the match.

In Gill's absence, vice-captain Rishabh Pant led the team. India suffered a 30-run defeat to South Africa in the first Test, giving the Proteas a 1-0 lead in the two-match series. If Gill is unable to recover in time for the second Test, Rishabh Pant is expected to lead the team.

The Indian team is aiming to level the series in Guwahati to avoid a series whitewash on home soil. The second Test match has become super-crucial for India as they aim to avoid a series whitewash against the Proteas Men.
