Shah Rukh Khan fans are buzzing with anticipation after director Siddharth Anand posted a cryptic countdown on X, sparking speculation about the first look of their upcoming film, "King". The excitement is already high due to leaked behind-the-scenes photos and glimpses from the sets in Poland.
Anand and Khan are reuniting for "King" after their successful collaboration on the action-thriller "Pathaan," which was released in 2023 and starred Deepika Padukone and John Abraham. "Pathaan" marked Khan's return to films after a four-year hiatus and became a massive commercial success, breaking records and grossing over ₹106 crore worldwide on its opening day.
"King" will feature Khan in the lead role, with his daughter Suhana Khan playing an important character, marking her theatrical debut. Abhishek Bachchan is expected to play the villain. The film is produced by Red Chillies Entertainment and Marflix.
Khan himself confirmed that his next film is "King," directed by Siddharth Anand. He mentioned at Global Village in Dubai that Anand is very strict and has asked him not to reveal too much about the film. However, he assured fans that the movie would be entertaining.
The screenplay for "King" is written by Sujoy Ghosh, Siddharth Anand, Suresh Nair, and Sagar Pandya, with Abbas Tyrewala penning the dialogues. The film promises exciting action sequences and will be shot in various locations around the world. Anand and his team have been conducting location scouting globally and designing groundbreaking action sequences with international stunt directors for the past six months.
There is speculation that "King" might feature action sequences inspired by the "John Wick" franchise. Anand fueled this rumor by sharing an Instagram story of himself wearing a hoodie with a bold red crown, accompanied by the background score from "John Wick". This led fans to believe that the film might include high-octane action with hand-to-hand combat and gunfight choreography.
"King" has an ensemble cast, including Jaideep Ahlawat, Arshad Warsi, Saurabh Shukla, Jackie Shroff, Abhay Verma, and Raghav Juyal. Deepika Padukone, Rani Mukerji, and Anil Kapoor will also make special appearances.
Filming for "King" is scheduled to begin in March 2025. The movie is expected to be released in the second half of 2026, though an official date is yet to be confirmed.
Shah Rukh Khan also shared updates on his son Aryan Khan's series, "The Ba***rds of Bollywood," revealing that the first look would be released soon.
