Demanding Justice: Wife's Plea for Arrests After Cop's Suicide, Names Listed in Note.

The wife of deceased Haryana IPS officer Y. Puran Kumar is demanding immediate action, including arrests, against all individuals named in her husband's suicide note. Amneet P. Kumar, a senior IAS officer, has formally requested Haryana Chief Minister Nayab Singh Saini to ensure the immediate registration of a First Information Report (FIR), suspension, and arrest of those implicated in the note. She also seeks permanent security for her family, citing threats and emotional distress, and protection of their dignity and rights.

Y. Puran Kumar, a 2001-batch IPS officer, was found dead at his residence on Tuesday with a gunshot wound. A suicide note, reportedly spanning eight to nine pages and titled "Final Note," was recovered from the scene. In it, Kumar accused several senior IPS officers of harassment and mental torture, alleging caste-based discrimination and public humiliation. The note names eight senior IPS officers, with specific reference to Haryana DGP Shatrujeet Singh Kapur and Rohtak SP Narendra Bijarania.

Amneet Kumar, who serves as Commissioner and Secretary in Haryana's Foreign Cooperation Department, was part of an official delegation to Japan led by the Chief Minister. She returned to India on Wednesday upon receiving news of her husband's death.

In a formal complaint, Amneet asserted that her husband's death resulted from systematic persecution by high-ranking officers. She argued that the suicide note constitutes a dying declaration and should be treated as crucial evidence demanding immediate legal action. She also questioned the delay in action by Chandigarh Police, who registered an FIR on Thursday night against all those named in the suicide note. The FIR includes charges of abetment to suicide and sections of the SC/ST Prevention of Atrocities Act.

Chief Minister Saini met with Amneet Kumar on Thursday to offer condolences, accompanied by senior officials. Former Chief Minister and Leader of the Opposition Bhupinder Singh Hooda has called for an impartial probe, emphasizing the state government's responsibility to ensure justice. Congress MP Varun Chaudhary alleged that Scheduled Caste officers are being harassed by senior officials, leading to mental distress, and demanded the preservation of all documents recovered from Kumar's residence.

The family has refused to perform the last rites until justice is served. Kumar's body is currently at the mortuary of Government Medical Super Specialty Hospital (GMSH), Sector 16, and an autopsy will be conducted once the family is ready and procedural clearances are obtained.
