Mumbai, November 24, 2025 – Veteran Bollywood actor Dharmendra has passed away at the age of 89, marking the end of an era in Indian cinema. The actor, often hailed as Bollywood's original "He-Man," breathed his last on Monday morning at his residence in Mumbai. He was just weeks away from his 90th birthday, which would have been on December 8, 2025.

News of his demise has prompted an outpouring of grief and tributes from across the film industry and his legions of fans. Among those mourning the loss is superstar Rajinikanth, who shared a heartfelt message expressing his sorrow.

Rajinikanth, who acted alongside Dharmendra in the 1987 film Insaaf Kaun Karega, took to social media platform X to express his condolences. "Farewell, my friend," he wrote. "I will always remember your golden heart and the moments we shared. Rest in peace, Dharam ji. My deepest condolences to his family".

Dharmendra's career spanned over six decades, during which he delivered numerous iconic performances that have become cultural milestones. From his sensitive roles in Bandini and Anupama to his unforgettable presence in Sholay, Dharmendra captivated audiences with his versatility and charisma. His filmography boasts classics such as Dharam Veer, Chupke Chupke, and Mera Gaon Mera Desh, which continue to be celebrated by generations of film lovers.

Dharmendra had been admitted to Mumbai's Breach Candy Hospital on October 31 after complaining of breathlessness. He was discharged on November 12 and had been recuperating at home. False reports regarding his health had circulated during his hospital stay, prompting his family to clarify the situation, assuring fans that his test results were normal.

The last rites for the actor were performed at the Pawan Hans crematorium in Mumbai on Monday. The ceremony was attended by family members and several Bollywood personalities, including Amitabh Bachchan, Shah Rukh Khan, and Salman Khan. Security was heightened around the crematorium in anticipation of the large number of people who came to pay their final respects.

Tributes have poured in from other members of the film fraternity as well. Actor Sushmita Sen shared a photo of herself with Dharmendra, fondly remembering the veteran actor. Smriti Irani, in a conversation with NDTV, described Dharmendra as "a son of the soil" who would be remembered for his craft, humility, and the lasting impression he left on everyone he met. Vicky Kaushal expressed his sadness, stating that Dharmendra would always remain in their hearts.
