The Indian film industry is mourning the loss of veteran actor Dharmendra, who passed away on Monday, November 24, 2025, at the age of 89. The actor, fondly known as Bollywood's "He-Man", had been battling age-related ailments and spent his final days under medical care at his Juhu bungalow. His death marks the end of an era, leaving behind a cinematic legacy that spans over six decades and more than 300 films.
Among the numerous tributes pouring in from across the globe, one of the most heartfelt came from superstar Shah Rukh Khan, who considered Dharmendra a father figure. Expressing his grief on X (formerly Twitter), SRK wrote, "Rest in Peace Dharam ji. You were nothing short of a father figure to me… thank u for showering me with blessings and love the way you did". He further added, "An inconsolable and irreplaceable loss to not just his family, but to cinema and film lovers world over. You are immortal… and your soul will live through your films and your beautiful family forever. Love you always".
Khan was seen at the crematorium paying his last respects. Many other members of the film fraternity, including Salman Khan and Hema Malini, also attended the funeral.
Dharmendra's passing has united the industry in grief, with co-stars, filmmakers, and admirers recalling memories of his generosity, humour, and unmatched cinematic aura. Whether it was action-packed roles, heartfelt romantic characters, or comic brilliance, he carried every part with effortless charm.
Union Home Minister Amit Shah also shared his condolences, calling Dharmendra's passing "an irreplaceable loss for the Indian film world". He noted that Dharmendra, who came from a simple family, made a strong and unforgettable mark in the film industry.
Numerous other celebrities have also expressed their sadness and shared their memories of the legendary actor. Rajinikanth wrote, "Farewell, my friend. I will always remember your golden heart and the moments we shared". Kamal Haasan said, "Dharam Ji's charm, humility and strength of spirit were as real off-screen as on it. Indian cinema has lost one of its kindest icons".
Dharmendra's last rites were performed with family members and colleagues from the film industry in attendance. His legacy as one of the most beloved and charismatic stars of Bollywood will continue to inspire generations to come.
