A 15-year-old girl has died by suicide at a private school in the Jashpur district of Chhattisgarh. The Class 9 student was found in the study room of the school's hostel on Sunday, prompting a police investigation into allegations of harassment by the school principal.

Police have recovered a note purportedly written by the deceased, which alleges repeated harassment and "bad touch" by the principal. Superintendent of Police Shashi Mohan Singh stated that the principal has been taken into custody, and a thorough investigation is underway. The investigation will consider the sequence of events leading up to the death, the conditions of the hostel, the conduct of staff, and any prior complaints. If the allegations are substantiated, the principal could face charges under stringent child protection laws.

Preliminary information indicates that the student resided in the school's hostel. The incident has caused panic within the school campus and surrounding villages. Police responded to the scene after being alerted by school staff and local residents.

This incident follows a similar case in Delhi, where a Class 10 student died by suicide after allegedly facing harassment from school staff. In that instance, the student jumped from a metro station after leaving a suicide note detailing the alleged harassment. The note also requested that his organs be donated and pleaded for action against the teachers he accused of causing him emotional suffering.

In the Delhi case, the father of the student had filed a complaint, accusing a teacher and three other staff members of mental distress. The headmistress, coordinator, and two teachers were suspended following the registration of an FIR. The father stated that his family had repeatedly raised concerns about the boy's treatment with the school. Classmates reported instances of alleged intimidation.

These incidents have prompted calls for stricter anti-bullying measures in schools and a focus on student mental health. The Delhi Education Department has set up a committee to investigate the allegations in the earlier case and assess the school's conduct.
