Ujjain, January 6, 2026 – Actress Nimrat Kaur, known for her roles in films like 'Lunchbox' and the series 'Kull,' commenced the New Year with a spiritual visit to the Shri Mahakaleshwar Temple in Ujjain, Madhya Pradesh. On Tuesday, January 6th, she offered prayers to Lord Shiva and participated in the revered Bhasma Aarti.
Speaking to ANI after the prayers, Kaur shared her profound experience. "I got the good fortune of offering prayers at the Mahakaleshwar Temple for the first time," she said. "There cannot be a better start to the New Year than this…I am feeling very emotional and overwhelmed...". She expressed feeling both emotional and overwhelmed by the experience.
The Mahakaleshwar Temple, situated on the banks of the Shipra River in Ujjain, is one of the twelve Jyotirlingas, making it an immensely significant religious site dedicated to Lord Shiva. The Bhasma Aarti is a highly esteemed ritual performed during the Brahma Muhurta, between 3:30 and 5:30 AM.
The traditions of the temple dictate that the Bhasma Aarti commences with the opening of Baba Mahakal's doors in the early morning hours. This is followed by a holy bath of the deity with Panchamrit, a sacred mixture comprising milk, curd, ghee, sugar, and honey. Following the bath, the deity is adorned with cannabis and sandalwood, after which the unique Bhasma Aarti and dhoop-deep Aarti are performed, accompanied by the sounds of drums and conch shells.
Devotees from across India travel to the temple to witness this divine ritual, with the belief that attending the Bhasma Aarti brings blessings and fulfills wishes. Nimrat Kaur's visit adds to the list of celebrities and public figures who have sought blessings at the Mahakaleshwar Temple.
