In a recent revelation, comedian and actor Vir Das shared the story of how he convinced Aamir Khan to produce his upcoming film, "Happy Patel: Khatarnak Jasoos". Das, who also directs and stars in the film, recounted the straightforward approach he took to get the Bollywood superstar on board.

According to Das, he hadn't spoken to Aamir Khan in almost a decade. After winning an Emmy, Das decided to reach out with a simple text message: "Aamir sir, can I call you?" Khan's immediate response was, "Yes, call now," which Das found surprisingly accessible.

During the call, Das directly pitched his film to Khan, saying, "Sir, I have a film with me, and I want you to make it. If you don't make it, no one else will". Khan's response was decisive, asking Das to come in for a narration the following week. Das was taken aback by Khan's accessibility and quick agreement to meet.

However, the process that followed was far from simple. Das revealed that he gave Khan nine narrations of the script. According to Das, Khan's primary focus was always the script. After the narrations, Khan suggested shooting five scenes with a small budget. Following the test shoot, Khan gave the green light to begin filming.

"Happy Patel: Khatarnak Jasoos" is produced by Aamir Khan Productions and stars Vir Das as Happy Patel, a bumbling but endearing detective. The film also features Mona Singh in a quirky role. Aamir Khan himself will appear in a cameo. The movie is scheduled to be released in theaters on January 16, 2026.

Adding to the buzz around the film, there were rumors about Imran Khan's involvement. Das shared that Imran Khan, who is known for being selective about his projects, contacted him directly expressing interest in joining the film. According to Das, Imran sent him a text message saying, "Hey, I hear the movie is shaping up nicely. Can I come and do something fun in the film?". The filmmakers created a new character specifically for Imran.

An announcement video for "Happy Patel: Khatarnak Jasoos" was released, featuring Aamir Khan humorously chiding Vir Das for making a "flop" spy film and teasing him about his role in it. In the video, Khan jokingly "beats up" Das for bringing up "Laal Singh Chaddha" and questions his decision to become an "item girl" in his own film.

Vir Das also thanked Aamir Khan for supporting original voices in cinema. "Happy Patel: Khatarnak Jasoos" is anticipated to showcase Vir Das's signature comedic style.
