Pep Guardiola's Newcastle Clash: "Embarrassed and Ashamed" After Sideline Confrontation with Cameraman.

Manchester City manager Pep Guardiola has expressed remorse for his confrontation with a cameraman following his team's 2-1 defeat against Newcastle on Saturday. The incident occurred at St James' Park after the final whistle, as Guardiola engaged in animated discussions with Newcastle captain Bruno Guimaraes and match officials.

Guardiola's frustration stemmed from the awarding of Harvey Barnes's winning goal in the 70th minute, a decision he felt was unjust. Replays and VAR reviews did little to quell his anger, as Manchester City believed goalkeeper Gianluigi Donnarumma was fouled in the build-up to the goal. The manager's emotions spilled over, leading to a physical interaction with a cameraman who was filming him at close range. He was pictured grabbing the camera operator's headset.

In a press conference on Monday, Guardiola addressed the incident, stating he felt "embarrassed and ashamed" upon reflection. "I apologise," Guardiola said. "I feel embarrassed and ashamed when I see it. I don't like it. I apologised to the cameraman after one second". He acknowledged his behavior was a "huge mistake," emphasizing that he is not perfect despite his extensive experience in the sport. Despite his regret, Guardiola affirmed his unwavering commitment to defending his team and club.

The City manager also downplayed any significant conflict with Newcastle's Bruno Guimaraes, clarifying that their post-match exchanges are typically friendly. Guardiola said that he has known Bruno for many years and every time after the game, even at the Etihad, they talk in the tunnel or wherever. He described himself as an emotional person who enjoys expressing himself through conversation and gestures.

While Guardiola apologized for his conduct towards the cameraman, he hinted at lingering concerns regarding the officiating during the game. He suggested he might elaborate on these concerns after Manchester City's Champions League clash with Bayer Leverkusen.
