Haryana IPS Suicide Case Deepens: New Death, Video, and an ASI's Claim of 'Sacrifice' Revealed.

The Haryana police force is facing a tumultuous period following the alleged suicide of IPS officer Y. Puran Kumar, with new layers of complexity added by the death of ASI Sandeep Lather and the emergence of a video where Lather accuses the deceased Kumar of corruption. Sandeep Kumar, who was posted with the cyber cell of Rohtak Police, was found dead in a room near an agricultural field in Rohtak's Ladhot village.

In a video message, ASI Sandeep Kumar alleges that Y. Puran Kumar was a "corrupt cop" and suggests that Kumar died by suicide because he feared exposure. Sandeep Kumar stated he was sacrificing his life for the "truth". According to NDTV, Sandeep Kumar was investigating a corruption case against Y. Puran Kumar. The Times of India reported that in the video, ASI Sandeep Kumar expressed his support for Narendra Bijarnia, the former Rohtak SP who was transferred after Kumar's death. Sandeep Kumar called Bijarnia an honest officer.

According to Hindustan Times, in the 6.26 minute video, Sandeep Kumar said that Y Puran Kumar took money to remove names in a murder case at Sadar police station and fixed a deal of ₹50 crore to take out the name of Rao Inderjit, a Gurugram based businessman. He also stated that Bijarnia was bearing his expenses from his salary and helping the cops and that the IG was targeting cops on the basis of caste and giving posts to corrupt persons from his community.

Prior to his death, Y. Puran Kumar, an Additional Director General of Police (ADGP), reportedly died by suicide at his government residence in Chandigarh. In a note, he accused 16 senior IAS and IPS officers of harassment, holding them responsible for his decision. Following Kumar's death, the Haryana government placed the state's Director General of Police on leave and replaced Rohtak's Superintendent of Police.

Amid the investigations, the Haryana Police amended the FIR in the Y. Puran Kumar case to include provisions of the SC/ST (Prevention of Atrocities) Act, following a request from his wife, Amneet P. Kumar. Chandigarh IG Pushpendra Kumar confirmed that the FIR now includes Section 3(2)(v) of the Act.

The family of ASI Sandeep Kumar has refused to hand over his body to the police. His last video has been widely shared, and police have cordoned off the area and are conducting forensic investigations. Rohtak SP Surendra Singh Bhoria described the deceased as a hardworking and honest member of the police department.

These events have ignited a political storm in Haryana. Rahul Gandhi met with the wife and daughters of Y. Puran Kumar shortly before ASI Sandeep Kumar's death was reported.
