Pooja Bedi, daughter of veteran actor Kabir Bedi, recently shared a deeply personal account of her brother Siddharth's suicide and the impact it had on her, particularly during her pregnancy with her daughter, actress Alaya F. In a candid interview, Bedi opened up about the tragic loss of her brother, who was 25 years old when he died by suicide in 1997 after battling schizophrenia.

Bedi revealed that Siddharth's death was a "huge shock" to the family. He had been diagnosed with schizophrenia after initial misdiagnoses of depression and bipolar disorder. She recounted the difficulty her father, Kabir Bedi, faced upon discovering his son's death while in America.

The actress further shared that she was pregnant with Alaya F at the time of her brother's passing and was concerned about the potential impact of the trauma on her pregnancy. "They tried to calm me down," she said, adding, "I wanted to stay calm for the child in my tummy. I didn't want the trauma to lead to a miscarriage or impact my baby. I stayed positive. As much as I loved him and missed him, I knew his journey had ended, and mine still had to continue".

Bedi also revealed that Siddharth left behind messages for his family, including a "very sweet message" for her and Alaya, as well as a note for their mother, Protima Bedi. She expressed her sorrow over her brother's decision, stating, "That incident was unnecessary, but he decided to end his journey. I really wish he had done things differently and lived".

Kabir Bedi has also spoken about the "enormous guilt" he felt after his son's suicide. He recalled the challenges the family faced in battling Siddharth's illness, including a "violent breakout" that led to his diagnosis of schizophrenia. He expressed the pain of seeing his son, once a "brilliant young man," struggle with his mental health.

Pooja Bedi has been open about her "bohemian progressive artistic environment" growing up. Her mother, Protima Bedi, a classical dancer, also died a few years after Siddharth. Pooja recalled that before her mother's death, Protima had handed over her will, jewellery, and property papers to Pooja, stating, "You never know". Pooja described her mother as "one of the most loving human beings on the planet".

Pooja Bedi has had a diverse career, including roles in Bollywood films, reality television shows, and as a columnist. She has also spoken about the importance of self-care and self-love for women.
