Srinagar – Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha has urged the Jammu and Kashmir (J&K) Police to embrace modern technology and innovation to effectively combat emerging crime trends and counter false narratives. Speaking at the Police Commemoration Day function in Srinagar on Tuesday, October 21, 2025, Sinha emphasized the critical need for a technologically advanced police force to address evolving security and information challenges.
LG Sinha lauded the J&K Police as an epitome of duty, discipline, loyalty, and selfless service, acknowledging their sacrifices and relentless efforts in maintaining peace and security in the region. He stated that the police have consistently prioritized the nation's development and the safety of citizens, often at the cost of their own lives. He also expressed gratitude to the police personnel and their families for their dedication to upholding the rule of law and ensuring the safety of the people.
Addressing the gathering, Sinha highlighted the necessity of adopting innovative tools and smart technology to strengthen policing and effectively respond to new crime trends, drug smuggling, and the spread of misinformation. He stressed that the next battle for the J&K Police is digital, requiring them to be well-equipped to counter fabricated narratives propagated by inimical forces. By leveraging technology, the police can become more capable and proactive in maintaining peace and order.
Sinha called upon the five pillars of the criminal justice system – police, prosecution, judiciary, forensics, and prison – to actively support development and ensure justice for all. He also reaffirmed his commitment to the welfare of police personnel and their families, noting that the J&K Police are implementing numerous programs to ensure that the families of fallen officers live with comfort and dignity.
The Lieutenant Governor highlighted the significant transformation in J&K over the past five years and urged the security apparatus to consolidate these gains through sustained peace and inclusive development. He emphasized the importance of ensuring that the people of J&K live their lives with dignity and freedom, safeguarding the atmosphere of peace and prosperity, and preventing separatists from disrupting the region's harmony.
IGP Kashmir V. K. Birdi chaired a review meeting, emphasizing proactive measures to strengthen the security grid. He directed officers to intensify patrolling, enhance night checking at vulnerable points, and ensure real-time intelligence sharing for coordinated operations to prevent potential threats. IGP Jammu division, Bhim Sen Tuti, acknowledged that foreign terrorists have been a major challenge for security forces in the last two years and that efforts are underway to neutralize them.
LG Sinha concluded by reiterating his administration's commitment to a peaceful and progressive J&K and called on citizens to actively support the police and security forces in their mission. He paid homage to the J&K Police personnel who lost their lives in the line of duty, emphasizing that their sacrifices would never be forgotten and that their courage inspires future generations.
