New Delhi: The Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS) has refuted allegations made by the Congress party that it has engaged a lobbying firm in the United States. The allegations surfaced on Thursday, November 13, 2025, with the Congress claiming the RSS hired "one of Pakistan's official lobbying arms" to advance its interests in the U.S.
Sunil Ambekar, the head of the RSS's national media and publicity department, firmly dismissed the Congress's charge. Ambekar stated, "The Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh works in Bharat and has not engaged any lobbying firm in the United States of America".
The Congress's accusations were initially made by General Secretary Jairam Ramesh, who alleged that the RSS had spent a significant amount of money to engage Squire Patton Boggs (SPB), an American law firm, to lobby on its behalf in the U.S. Ramesh further claimed that SPB has also represented Pakistan.
Ramesh posted on X, "A few days ago, the RSS chief Mohan Bhagwat acknowledged that the RSS isn't a registered organisation and that it does not pay taxes. Now, we learn that the RSS has spent a significant amount of money to engage one of Pakistan's official lobbying arms - the American law firm Squire Patton Boggs (SPB) - to espouse its interests in the US". He went on to say, "This is hardly the first time that the RSS - with its long tradition of betraying the freedom movement, opposing Mahatma Gandhi and Dr. Ambedkar, and attacking the Constitution and the national flag of India - has betrayed national interest".
The RSS, however, has rejected these claims as false and baseless, asserting that it operates solely within India and has no ties with any foreign lobbying entity. They maintain that their work is confined to India, and they have not engaged any firm for lobbying activities in the United States.
