Ishaan Khatter on Acting: Overexposure Can Be a Dangerous Trap for Actors' Careers.

In a recent interview, Ishaan Khatter opened up about the potential pitfalls of overexposure in the entertainment industry, cautioning actors against spreading themselves too thin. The "Homebound" star, who is set to lead India's official submission for the Oscars 2026, alongside Vishal Jethwa, emphasized the importance of setting boundaries in a world saturated with media.

Khatter referenced a warning from veteran actor Dilip Kumar about the risks of overexposure in a media-heavy environment. He highlighted that constant visibility could be detrimental, advising actors to carefully consider their choices and ensure they align with their personal and professional goals. "In a world saturated with media, Dilip Sahab has been warning about the risks of overexposure since the 70s,” Ishaan stated. "We are indeed living in an excessively visible environment. It's important to set boundaries for yourself".

The actor suggested that being selective about projects and maintaining a degree of privacy can contribute to a more sustainable and fulfilling career. He stressed the significance of prioritizing quality over quantity, a commitment he seemingly reaffirmed through his choice of projects. According to Khatter, determining one's limits is a personal choice and priority.

Khatter, known for his roles in "Dhadak," "A Suitable Boy," and his recent Hollywood debut in "The Perfect Couple," has often spoken about his desire to diversify his work and not be confined to any one particular industry. He admitted that the most consistent feedback he gets is that he looks very young. He also stated that he is making the most of the opportunities he receives and doing justice to them. In an interview with indianexpress.com, Khatter said, "For better or for worse we don't write a lot of complex and layered roles for young faces and young actors here".

The actor's remarks come at a time when actors are increasingly under pressure to maintain a strong social media presence and engage in constant self-promotion. Khatter acknowledged that actors exist in a world of constant visibility, but it is crucial to establish personal limits. He also mentioned that social media presence is a matter of personal choice and hinges on one's own priorities. However, Khatter seems to suggest that this constant exposure can detract from the craft and lead to a loss of authenticity.

In addition to his views on overexposure, Khatter has also been vocal about other issues within the industry. He recently expressed his discomfort with being objectified, particularly concerning the overuse of shirtless scenes in some of his projects. He recounted instances where he had to push back against what he felt were unnecessary and creatively unjustified requests to remove his shirt.

Beyond his artistic endeavors, Khatter recently voiced his concern over the worsening air quality in Delhi, calling the situation "troubling and unacceptable". He shared his sentiments on social media, responding to news articles highlighting the alarming pollution levels in the city.
