Insider Connects Two Canadian Teams to Blues Star Winger
St. Louis Blues' General Manager Doug Armstrong is reportedly open to shaking up his roster following a disappointing start to the 2025-26 season. According to NHL insiders Jeremy Rutherford and Chris Johnston, star winger Jordan Kyrou has garnered significant interest from around the league and could be on the move. While the Montreal Canadiens have been previously linked to Kyrou, the Vancouver Canucks and Ottawa Senators are now also considered potential landing spots for the 27-year-old.
Kyrou, currently on injured reserve with a lower-body injury, is in the third year of an eight-year, $65 million contract extension he signed with the Blues in 2022. In the 28 games he has played this season, he has recorded 16 points (eight goals, eight assists). Despite the long-term commitment and his current injury status, Kyrou's potential as a dynamic offensive force makes him an attractive target for teams looking to bolster their scoring depth.
Rutherford noted speculation from last summer that Kyrou might be traded before his no-trade clause took effect on July 1st. While that date has passed, the question now is whether Kyrou fits into the long-term vision of the Blues' management. Armstrong has indicated that he is willing to listen to any trade proposals, suggesting that Kyrou is not untouchable.
For the Vancouver Canucks and Ottawa Senators, acquiring Kyrou would represent a significant addition to their forward corps. The Canucks are looking to solidify their position as a contender in the Western Conference, and adding a player of Kyrou's caliber would undoubtedly boost their offensive capabilities. Similarly, the Senators, who have made the Stanley Cup Playoffs, are aiming to add wing depth and improve their chances of making a deep playoff run.
However, acquiring Kyrou will not come cheap. Armstrong is unlikely to let go of such a valuable asset for anything less than a substantial return. Any potential trade package would likely involve a combination of high-value draft picks, promising prospects, and possibly even established NHL players.
The Canadiens have also been mentioned as a possible destination for other Blues players, including center Robert Thomas. A hypothetical trade proposal suggested the Canadiens could send Kaden Guhle, Oliver Kapanen, Alexander Zavorovski, Jaden Struble, Patrick Laine, and a 2026 first-round pick to St. Louis for Thomas and Colton Parayko.
It remains to be seen whether any of these Canadian teams will ultimately be able to strike a deal with the Blues for Kyrou or other players. However, the fact that multiple teams are expressing interest underscores Kyrou's value and the potential for a significant trade in the near future. As the trade deadline approaches, expect these rumors to intensify as teams jockey for position to improve their rosters for a playoff push.
