Kapil Sharma's latest film, "Kis Kisko Pyaar Karoon 2," is slated for a re-release in January 2026 after facing a challenging initial run in theaters. The comedy sequel, which hit screens on December 12, 2025, was significantly impacted by the phenomenal success of "Dhurandhar," starring Ranveer Singh, which released a week prior.
Sharma and the film's makers attribute the underwhelming performance to limited screen availability due to the "Dhurandhar" wave and ongoing multiplex takeovers. "Dhurandhar" had one of the widest releases of the year and has dominated the box office, crossing ₹1000 crore worldwide. This dominance has squeezed the screen space for other films, including "Avatar: Fire and Ash," "Zootopia 2," and "Tu Meri Main Tera Main Tera Tu Meri".
Despite the competition, "Kis Kisko Pyaar Karoon 2" managed to earn ₹1.85 crore on its opening day and has grossed ₹12.31 crore in India. However, these numbers are modest compared to the original 2015 film, "Kis Kisko Pyaar Karoon," which earned nearly ₹50 crore during its lifetime run.
The producers of "Kis Kisko Pyaar Karoon 2" have decided to re-release the film in January 2026 to give it a better chance at the box office. In a statement, they expressed that the initial theatrical run was affected by limited screen availability. They hope that the re-release will allow audiences to "relive the franchise's charm". The exact re-release date is yet to be announced.
"Kis Kisko Pyaar Karoon 2" stars Kapil Sharma, Hira Warina, Ayesha Khan, Tridha Choudhury, Manjot Singh, and Parul Gulati. The film is produced by Ratan Jain, Ganesh Jain, and Abbas-Mustan. It is directed by Anukalp Goswami. The film is a sequel to the 2015 comedy and revolves around Kumar Shiv Ram Kishan, played by Kapil, who is married to four women. The film also holds emotional value as it features the final on-screen appearance of veteran actor Asrani.
Trade analysts believe that the January window could be more favorable for the film, with fewer big releases and more screen availability. The makers are optimistic that positive word-of-mouth and Kapil Sharma's fan base will help the comedy find a wider audience during its second run. However, the film's success will depend on whether audiences choose to watch it in theaters or wait for its Over-the-Top (OTT) premiere.
