Manchester United head coach Ruben Amorim has expressed strong confidence in the club's potential, despite a challenging 2024/25 season. The Red Devils finished a disappointing 15th in the Premier League, accumulating only 42 points.
Amorim acknowledged the season as a "disaster" but conveyed optimism that the worst is behind them. Speaking after a 2-0 victory over Aston Villa at Old Trafford, Amorim highlighted the positive spirit within the team and among the supporters. He emphasized the need for time and patience, stating, "We are going to suffer a little bit more but better days are coming. We are changing things that you can't see in the results". He believes these changes are embedded in the club's culture and daily practices.
Manchester United had an opportunity to secure a trophy but lost 1-0 to Tottenham Hotspur in the Europa League final. Despite the defeat, Amorim maintains a positive outlook. "It was a tough season, but this club is more than this and we will try to do better next season,” he affirmed.
Amorim addressed the club's transfer plans, acknowledging Financial Fair Play (FFP) regulations. He also reflected on the season's conclusion after a win, stating, "So we finished a terrible and hard season with a win. It's a good feeling". He believes the team is improving but recognizes there is much more work to be done in the upcoming season.
Appointed to revive Manchester United after Erik ten Hag's departure, Amorim declared himself "the right guy in the right moment" to guide the club back to the top. He emphasized his belief in the players and the potential for improvement, despite external skepticism. "I'm a little bit of a dreamer, but I believe in myself and I also believe in the club,” Amorim stated. “I think we have the same idea, the same mindset, so that can help, but I also truly believe in the players".
At the midway point of the current campaign, Amorim reiterated his confidence, saying, "I'm really confident". He emphasized the importance of player recovery and expressed optimism about the future.
Looking ahead, Amorim recognizes the challenge posed by Manchester City, acknowledging them as a top team with the best coach in the league. Despite City's strength, Amorim stressed the progress Manchester United has made, even with inconsistent results. "We believe in our team. And I have that feeling. So it will be a very good game," he said.
Amorim also expressed his desire to uphold Manchester United's tradition of nurturing young talents from within the club. "If you see the past of Manchester United, it's built on kids that grew up here and stayed here for a long time. I think that should be our goal in the future. So I will try to maintain that,” he stated.
