In the realm of Bollywood music, the collaboration between singer Mohit Chauhan and composer A.R. Rahman has produced some of the most soul-stirring and memorable tracks of recent times. Chauhan, known for his distinctive earthy tone and emotionally rich delivery, has often spoken about the spiritual connection he feels when working with the Oscar-winning composer.
"Working with A.R. Rahman is nothing short of being spiritual and inspiring," Chauhan stated in a recent interview. He emphasized that Rahman possesses a unique spiritual aura that deeply influences his music. Chauhan, who began his Bollywood journey with "Pehli Nazar Me Dari Thi" in 2002, rose to prominence with songs like "Khoon Chala" from Rang De Basanti and "Tum Se Hi" from Jab We Met, cherishes the opportunities he’s had to collaborate with Rahman.
Chauhan first met Rahman in Chennai to sing for Rang De Basanti. Since then, he has lent his voice to numerous Rahman compositions, including Hindi and other languages like Tamil and Kannada. Some of their collaborations include "Kun Faaya Kun", "Masakali", "Saans", and most recently, "Chikiri Chikiri" for the film Peddi. "His songs have always been very special to me," Chauhan remarked, highlighting the impact Rahman's music has had on his career.
Reflecting on the song "Kun Faaya Kun" from the movie Rockstar, Chauhan expressed his awe at the spiritual connection experienced during the song's filming at Delhi’s Hazrat Nizamuddin Dargah. He noted the divine connection present in the song, attributing it to Rahman's beautiful composition and Irshad Kamil's lyrics. Chauhan feels blessed to be a part of the song, acknowledging that such opportunities are rare.
Beyond his work with Rahman, Chauhan has made a mark with other collaborations and independent projects. He recently released a song titled "Meri Aawaaz" to give voice to stray dogs. Chauhan felt compelled to create the song due to a perceived lack of compassion in public discussions surrounding the relocation of stray dogs. The lyrics, penned by Prarthana Gehlot, aim to provoke thought and remind people of the importance of compassion and respect for all life forms.
Looking back at his musical journey, Chauhan acknowledges the changing landscape of the music industry and the impact of digital platforms. Despite these changes, he remains committed to creating music that resonates with the soul.
