Bollywood superstar Hrithik Roshan recently celebrated his Bengali heritage, revealing that he is "25% Bengali Blood". The actor, known for his roles in films like "Krrish" and "War," shared images from his cousin Eshaan Roshan's wedding, captioning the post, "That's the 25% Bengali blood in me shining through". He also included the hashtags "#shonarbangla" and "#MachcharJhol," expressing his fondness for Bengali culture and cuisine.
In the shared images, Roshan is seen sporting a pastel pink and white kurta with traditional Bengali embroidery along the edges. This sartorial choice was a nod to his Bengali roots, which trace back to his paternal grandmother, Ira Moitra (née Roshan). Ira Moitra was a celebrated music icon from Kolkata. She was a trained vocalist who lent her voice to numerous films and even performed a duet with Lata Mangeshkar. When a fan inquired about his ancestry, Hrithik affectionately referred to his grandmother as "dida".
Hrithik Roshan's connection to his Bengali heritage stems from his paternal grandmother, Ira Roshan, a Bengali Brahmin. She married Roshanlal Nagrath, a renowned music director in the Indian film industry. Hrithik was also known as Duggu by his grandmother Ira.
Roshan's acknowledgment of his Bengali ancestry has resonated with fans, highlighting the diverse backgrounds that contribute to the richness of Bollywood. This isn't the first time the actor has expressed his affinity for Bengali culture. During a visit to Kolkata to promote one of his films, Roshan revealed his love for the traditional Bengali sweet, Rosogolla. His first public appearance was also in Kolkata in 2000, as his grandmother wished for his first stage performance to be in the city.
On the work front, Hrithik Roshan was last seen in "War 2". He is currently focusing on "Krrish 4". Besides acting, Hrithik Roshan is also making his debut as a producer on OTT with 'Storm'.
