Nitin Nabin, the current National Working President of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), is likely to be formally elected as the party's national president before the Budget session. This move would solidify his position as a key leader within the party.
Nabin's ascent comes after his appointment as National Working President in December 2025. The BJP parliamentary board appointed Nabin as the National Working President of the party. He is expected to succeed J.P. Nadda as national president in April 2026, after the formal election process begins in January 2026. At 45 years old, he is considered one of the youngest leaders to hold such a prominent position within the BJP.
Nabin has already begun to actively lead the party, particularly with crucial Assembly elections in West Bengal, Tamil Nadu, Kerala, and Assam on the horizon. A key aspect of his initial focus is strengthening the relationship and coordination between the BJP and the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS), its ideological fountainhead. To this end, he is planning a series of meetings with heads of various RSS wings and Sangh-affiliated organizations. Sources indicate that Nabin's role will be to ensure active coordination between the BJP-led central government and the party-led state governments.
Nitin Nabin has a long history with the BJP. He has served as a five-time Member of the Bihar Legislative Assembly. He was first elected in 2006 from the Patna West Assembly Constituency and then consecutively from the Bankipur Assembly Constituency in 2010, 2015, 2020, and 2025. He also held ministerial portfolios in the Government of Bihar, including Minister of Road Construction, Urban Development & Housing, and Law & Justice. Furthermore, he has held various organizational positions within the BJP, including National General Secretary of the Bharatiya Janata Yuva Morcha (BJYM) and State President of BJYM Bihar. He has also served as BJP in-charge for Sikkim and co-in-charge for Chhattisgarh.
Party leaders have described Nabin as dynamic, ideologically rooted, and deeply committed to the organization. His appointment as National Working President was met with congratulations from BJP President J.P. Nadda and former BJP President Amit Shah, who expressed confidence in his leadership and organizational skills. Nadda believes Nabin will provide a new direction to the BJP's journey of public service and nation-building, while Shah anticipates further expansion of the organization under his leadership.
