Rajasthan's Anti-Terrorism Squad (ATS) has detained a cleric from Kuriyaberi village, located in the Tanot-Kishangarh area near the India-Pakistan border, on suspicion of engaging in "anti-national activities".
In a separate incident in November 2025, the Rajasthan ATS arrested Maulvi Osama Umar from Sanchore in the Jalore district for alleged links with the banned terror organization Tehrik-e-Taliban Pakistan (TTP). According to ATS officials, Umar had been in contact with top commanders of the Afghanistan-based terrorist outfit for the past four years and was actively attempting to spread radical ideology while living near the Gujarat-Rajasthan border in a mosque. He is accused of brainwashing at least four individuals and trying to recruit them for the TTP. The ATS has invoked the Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act (UAPA) against the cleric, alleging that he was recruiting men for the TTP network.
The ATS launched a coordinated operation across four districts in Rajasthan and detained five suspects. Besides Osama Umar, the other suspects were identified as Masood Pandipar from Barmer, Mohammad Ayub from Pipad, Jodhpur, Mohammad Junaid from Bagor Mohalla, Karauli, and Basir from Ramsar, Barmer. Following four days of interrogation, the ATS formally registered a case and arrested Osama.
Investigations revealed that Umar was planning to flee the country and travel to Afghanistan via Dubai to receive terror training at a TTP base camp. ATS officials said that had they delayed the operation by even two days, the accused could have escaped abroad. Furthermore, after completing his training, he planned to return to India and activate a sleeper cell.
The ATS recovered over 300,000 hidden photos and extremist content from Umar's phone, revealing four years of TTP-related activity. He had reportedly been consuming online propaganda material of the Tehreek-e-Taliban Pakistan for the past four years and was in contact with radical organizations through social media.
Efforts are ongoing to de-radicalize the four other individuals detained alongside Umar. National intelligence agencies, ATS, and state surveillance units have been put on alert, and monitoring of suspects, especially on social media platforms, has been intensified.
In late October 2025, the National Investigation Agency (NIA) and ATS teams conducted simultaneous raids across multiple districts of Rajasthan, detaining five suspects, including three clerics, over suspected terror links. Two suspects, Ayub and Masood, were detained from the Chaukha and Pipar areas of Jodhpur, while Usman was picked up from Sanchore in Jalore district. A youth identified as Junaid was detained from Dholikhar in Karauli district, and another individual was apprehended from Jaipur.
