Shamli, Uttar Pradesh – Haji Firoz Khan, a gangster from Uttar Pradesh, has claimed his life is under immediate threat from the Uttar Pradesh police. Khan, who has 22 cases against him including rape and murder, has resorted to posting live videos on social media, in what police are calling "mere theatrics".
On Saturday, January 4, 2026, Khan reportedly chained himself inside his home in Jhinjhana town, rigged a noose, and installed CCTV cameras, broadcasting live videos every half hour. This bizarre episode follows the seizure of 14 of Khan's properties worth approximately Rs 30 crore on December 25, 2025, under Section 14(1) of the Gangsters Act, as he was listed as absconding in police records.
In one video clip, Khan, who is in his late 50s, claimed that a court had stayed his arrest and that no police action should be taken against him. He alleges the police intend to eliminate him in an encounter, leading him to impose "precautionary house arrest" upon himself.
SP (Shamli) NP Singh dismissed Khan's actions as an attempt to obstruct police and administrative work. Singh stated that Khan is issuing criminal threats against official proceedings by public servants and leveling false, baseless allegations against police and administrative officials while threatening suicide. According to Singh, Khan previously maintained his own social media cell, which he is now using to make unsubstantiated accusations. However, the SP affirmed that legal action against the gangster would continue despite his "online stunts".
Police have filed a case against Khan, his niece, and another accused under BNS sections including 218 (resistance to lawful taking of property), and 226 (threat of injury to public servant).
This incident comes amid heightened scrutiny of law enforcement actions against gangsters in Uttar Pradesh.
