Following the box office success of "Tere Ishk Mein," director Aanand L Rai and actor Dhanush are reportedly planning to reunite for a fourth film. Sources indicate that the duo may be exploring a large-scale period action romance.
Having previously collaborated on "Raanjhanaa" (2013), "Atrangi Re" (2021), and "Tere Ishk Mein" (2025), Rai and Dhanush have established a strong creative partnership in recent years. Their collaborations are known for emotionally driven storytelling and character-driven narratives.
According to insiders, this new project will retain Rai's signature emotionally driven storytelling while marking a shift in genre for the pair. While specific details about the film are under wraps, the project is expected to be mounted on a grand scale with a historical backdrop. The intent is to blend emotion with spectacle, embracing a grander cinematic scope.
Dhanush has spoken about the demanding nature of Rai's characters, noting that they require emotional depth and careful preparation. Rai has praised Dhanush for his ability to fully surrender to a character and push himself beyond limits.
"Tere Ishk Mein," a spiritual sequel to "Raanjhanaa," featured Dhanush and Kriti Sanon and explored themes of love, heartbreak, and transformation. The film was a commercial success, grossing over ₹100 crore at the Indian box office. "Raanjhanaa" marked Dhanush's Hindi film debut and was also a commercial hit. "Atrangi Re," which starred Sara Ali Khan and Akshay Kumar, was released directly on OTT due to the COVID-19 pandemic and was a critical success.
While awaiting official confirmation on the period action romance, Rai is currently working on "Tu Yaa Main," starring Shanaya Kapoor and Adarsh Gourav, slated for release on Valentine's Day weekend, and "Nakhrewaalii," featuring debutantes Ansh Duggal and Pragati Srivastava. Dhanush recently wrapped up shooting his 54th film, tentatively titled D54, with Mamitha Baiju, and was last seen in "Idli Kadai," which he also directed.
