Varun Dhawan on Border 2 Release: Pakistani Fan's Question and a Respectful Nod to Sunny Deol's Popularity.

In a recent online interaction, Varun Dhawan responded to a Pakistani fan's question regarding the release of "Border 2" in Pakistan, acknowledging Sunny Deol's widespread fanbase across borders. The exchange occurred during a #VarunSays session on Dhawan's X (formerly Twitter) account on January 6, 2026, just weeks before the film's scheduled release.

Ali Haider Meerani, a fan from Sindh, Pakistan, expressed his admiration for Sunny Deol's character, Tara Singh, from the original "Border" and inquired about the sequel's release in Pakistan. Meerani's message read, "Bhai aapki Border 2 Pakistan mein kab release hogi aur main Tara Singh ka bahut bada fan hoon, unko mera salaam kehna (Brother, when will Border 2 release in Pakistan? I am a huge fan of Tara Singh, please convey my greetings to him)".

Dhawan responded by highlighting the film's backdrop, stating, "Border 2 is a film based on the 1971 war and some true events around that. I'm sure Sunny sir ke Pakistan mein bhi fans hain (Sunny sir has fans in Pakistan as well)". While Dhawan didn't directly address the release prospects in Pakistan, his reply acknowledged Deol's popularity in the neighboring country.

"Border 2," directed by Anurag Singh, is a sequel to the 1997 hit film "Border," and is set against the backdrop of the 1971 Indo-Pak war. The film features Sunny Deol, Varun Dhawan, Diljit Dosanjh, and Ahan Shetty in key roles. Deol will be seen as Lt Colonel Fateh Singh Kaler, while Dhawan portrays Major Hoshiar Singh Dahiya, PVC. Dosanjh plays a character inspired by Fg Offr Nirmal Jit Singh Sekhon, PVC, and Shetty essays Lt Cdr Joseph Pius Alfred Noronha, MVC. Mona Singh, Sonam Bajwa, Medha Rana, and Anya Singh also appear in pivotal roles.

The film is slated for release on January 23, 2026, coinciding with India's Republic Day weekend. The teaser was launched on December 16, 2025, which holds significance as Vijay Diwas, commemorating India's victory in the 1971 war against Pakistan.

Dhawan also shared insights into his preparation for the war film, revealing that he had injured himself during a battle sequence. He mentioned shooting for 40 days in Babina with real soldiers for the Battle of Basantar sequence and that he injured his tailbone during the filming. He also noted that the film highlights the importance of combined forces in warfare, featuring the Army, Navy, and Air Force, alongside Sunny Deol's character.
