PM Modi Expands Gandhinagar Metro: Inaugurates Final Section of Phase 2, Boosting City Connectivity.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi inaugurated the final segment of Phase 2 of the Ahmedabad Metro on Sunday, completing a vital transportation link between Ahmedabad and Gandhinagar. This extension connects Sector 10A in Gandhinagar to the Mahatma Mandir convention center, marking a significant step in improving connectivity between the twin cities.

The newly inaugurated section introduces five new stations: Akshardham, Old Secretariat, Sector-16, Sector-24, and Mahatma Mandir, which serves as the terminal station on the Ahmedabad–Gandhinagar Metro Phase 2 route. This 5.36-kilometer extension is expected to significantly enhance metro connectivity to important landmarks such as the Akshardham Temple and Dandi Kutir.

The completion of this corridor marks a major expansion of the Ahmedabad-Gandhinagar Metro network, now spanning 68 kilometers with 54 stations. The Gujarat Metro Rail Corporation developed this corridor with the aim of providing faster, more affordable, and environmentally friendly transportation to thousands of daily commuters.

Prior to the inauguration, multiple trial runs were successfully conducted on the route, with the first trial taking place on Vijayadashami in October of the previous year. The new metro line promises to streamline travel between the two cities, offering a convenient and efficient mode of transport for residents and visitors alike.

Earlier in the day, before arriving in Ahmedabad for the metro inauguration, the Prime Minister participated in the Somnath Swabhiman Parv in Prabhas Patan and inaugurated the Vibrant Gujarat Regional Conference in Rajkot.
