Yorath, who passed away on January 7th at the age of 75, was honored with a minute's applause before kick-off, and the Leeds players wore black armbands as a sign of respect. Yorath's daughter, sports broadcaster Gabby Logan, was in attendance to witness the tribute to her father, who made 199 appearances for Leeds and won the First Division title in 1974. The matchday programme was also dedicated to the former midfielder.

The game itself was a hard-fought contest, with neither side able to break the deadlock until the final moments. After an even first half, Leeds dominated for stretches but struggled to convert their chances. Brenden Aaronson missed a clear opportunity in the first half, blazing the ball over the crossbar. Fulham, meanwhile, grew into the game after a slow start, but also failed to capitalize on their opportunities.

Just as it appeared that Fulham would extend their unbeaten run to seven league matches, Lukas Nmecha stepped up to secure the win for Leeds. Nmecha, who came on as a substitute in the 81st minute, latched onto a cross from Ethan Ampadu and fired home a stoppage-time winner in the 91st minute. The goal sparked jubilant scenes at Elland Road, as Leeds secured a valuable three points.

The victory keeps Leeds eight points clear of the Premier League's relegation zone. Daniel Farke's side have been strong at home recently, and extended their unbeaten home run to five matches with the win. Fulham, meanwhile, drop to 10th in the table after their six-match unbeaten league run came to an end.

In addition to the tribute to Terry Yorath, Leeds also marked the passing of supporter Colin Wood, who died ahead of their previous home fixture against Manchester United. Supporters joined in a minute of applause in the 67th minute to remember Wood.
