Lenni Hameenaho has been recalled by the New Jersey Devils from their AHL affiliate, the Utica Comets, on Saturday, January 17, 2026. This marks the first NHL recall for the 21-year-old Finnish forward. In a corresponding move, defenseman Colton White was assigned to Utica after clearing waivers.
Hameenaho has had a strong first season in the AHL, leading the Utica Comets with 21 points in 33 games. He is also tied for the team lead in goals with Brian Halonen, both having scored nine goals. Hameenaho's point total includes two power-play goals and one shorthanded goal.
Prior to the recall, the Devils placed both Juho Lammikko and Colton White on waivers with the intention of sending them to Utica. Both players cleared waivers and have been assigned to the Comets. Lammikko recorded two assists in 22 games with the Devils, while White had four assists in 23 games. The assignment to Utica is expected to provide Lammikko and White with increased ice time, particularly for Lammikko, given Hameenaho's promotion to New Jersey.
The Devils might be without Ondrej Palat for their game against the Carolina Hurricanes due to illness. During the morning practice, Colton White filled in on the fourth line at right wing, but he was still with the team while awaiting his waivers to clear. The Devils could have been waiting for Hameenaho to arrive in New Jersey before making the final roster decisions.
It remains to be seen whether Hameenaho will make his NHL debut against the Carolina Hurricanes. With 12 healthy forwards on the roster, the Devils could either insert Hameenaho into the lineup or opt to play with 11 forwards and seven defensemen. The Devils are set to host the Hurricanes at Prudential Center at 7:00 PM ET.
