Chennai – In the Velachery area of Chennai, three men have been arrested in connection with the attempted murder of a 23-year-old delivery worker. The incident, which occurred on Sunday night, has sparked political debate regarding law and order in Tamil Nadu.
The victim, identified as Parthiban, a resident of Velachery, was attacked with a knife allegedly due to a previous dispute. Following the attack, the assailants reportedly took to social media to boast about their actions.
The Ashok Nagar police arrested S Sanjay (18), S Sakthivel (20), and V Sunil Kumar (20) on charges of attempted murder.
This incident is not the first involving delivery workers in Chennai. In June 2025, a food delivery executive named R Kalaiarasan was murdered. In that case, the Ashok Nagar police initially arrested three youths on attempt to murder charges, which were later changed to murder after Kalaiarasan's death. Investigations revealed that Kalaiarasan's wife's family was upset about their separation, leading to the attack. The police arrested Kalaiarasan's wife, Thamizharasi, and her mother, Santhiya, for their involvement in the murder plot.
In March 2025, a 41-year-old man disguised as a medicine delivery agent attacked and attempted to rob a 65-year-old retired nursing professor in Valasaravakkam. The assailant, M Nagamuthu, was arrested after the woman's maid raised the alarm.
