In Rajouri, Jammu and Kashmir, an Indian Army soldier sustained injuries in a landmine explosion near the Line of Control (LoC). The incident occurred during a routine patrol in a forward area.
The blast took place when the soldier inadvertently stepped on a landmine. The injured soldier was immediately evacuated to a nearby medical facility for treatment. While there are no confirmed reports on the current condition of the soldier, reports from similar incidents state that the injured were stable.
The areas near the LoC are known to be dotted with landmines as part of an anti-infiltration obstacle system. These landmines are intended to prevent infiltration and terrorist activities. However, due to heavy rains and other environmental factors, these mines can sometimes shift from their original positions, leading to accidental detonations.
In a similar incident on January 14, 2025, six army personnel were injured in a landmine explosion in the Nowshera sector of Rajouri. In another incident on July 25, 2025, in the Poonch district of Jammu and Kashmir, a soldier was killed, and two others were injured due to a landmine blast during area domination patrolling.
Such incidents raise concerns about the safety of soldiers deployed in these regions and the persistent dangers posed by landmines and unexploded ordnance. The Indian and Pakistani armies have frequently engaged in cross-border firing along the LoC and International Border (IB) in Jammu and Kashmir, making it one of the most militarized zones. India shares a 3,323-km-long border with Pakistan, with 221 km of the IB and 740 km of the LoC falling in Jammu and Kashmir.
