Chandigarh/Punjab: In a recent announcement, the Punjab Government, led by Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann, has declared a holiday for all schools across the state on January 27, 2026. This decision encompasses all government, aided, and unaided private schools, as well as all recognized educational institutions within the state. The announcement was made on Monday, January 26, 2026.
The holiday is expected to provide a day of relief for students and staff following Republic Day celebrations.
In addition to Punjab, the Chandigarh Administration has also declared January 27, 2026, a holiday for all government and private schools within the Union Territory. This decision was made following the Republic Day event held at the Parade Ground. H Rajesh Prasad, UT Chief Secretary, emphasized Chandigarh's commitment to good governance, institutional integrity, and citizen participation during the 77th Republic Day celebrations.
The coordinated announcements mean that schools in Punjab and Chandigarh will remain closed on January 27, 2026. Other states, including Delhi-NCR and parts of Uttar Pradesh, will also observe closures or adjusted schedules due to extended winter breaks and weather conditions. However, most southern and central states are expected to operate normally. Parents in affected regions are advised to check for any district-specific updates to confirm the holiday.
