A video of Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD) leader Tejashwi Yadav dancing with young people in Patna has sparked political reactions, drawing criticism from the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP). The video, which went viral on social media, shows Yadav enjoying himself on Patna's Marine Drive after completing the 16-day 'Voter Adhikar Yatra'.
The 'Voter Adhikar Yatra' was a campaign spanning 1,300 km across 23 districts in Bihar, aimed at raising awareness about the Opposition's concerns regarding alleged vote theft by the BJP and the Election Commission. After the intense campaign, Yadav was seen in a lighter mood, dancing to a Bhojpuri song with a group of youngsters. His sister, Rohini Acharya, shared the video on social media platform X. In the video, Yadav can be seen learning dance steps from the local boys, laughing, and having tea with his nephew and others. He also quipped, "Hum Modi ji ko nachate hain (We can even make Modi dance to our tune),".
The BJP was quick to respond to the video, with some leaders taking a dig at Yadav. Union Minister Jitan Ram Manjhi of the Hindustani Awam Morcha (HAM) said that the video showed that there is a good-governance government in the state. Manjhi added that if it had been Lalu Prasad Yadav's government, the youths would have been abducted and forced to dance at the Chief Minister's residence. He said that this is why the NDA is necessary in Bihar.
Tejashwi Yadav responded to the criticism by posting a clarification on X. He stated that after completing the 'Voter Adhikar Yatra', he went for a late-night drive with his nephew, who was visiting from Singapore. He added that they met some young artists who were singing and making reels, and when they insisted, he also joined in. Yadav further stated that he intends to change the government in the state by connecting with the aspirations and hopes of the youth.
The video has triggered mixed reactions, with some finding it to be a light-hearted moment and others viewing it as a political statement. The incident highlights how even casual moments involving political leaders can quickly become talking points, especially in a politically charged environment like Bihar.
It is worth noting that this isn't the first time a video of Tejashwi Yadav dancing has gained attention. In 2018, a video of him dancing at his brother's wedding ceremony went viral.
